Lise Sore’s impressive self-portraits grab you by the throat. This artist draws on transparent cheesecloth, often from ceiling to floor, capturing universal emotions that touch deeply. No mask, no distraction – just the power of human vulnerability.

Sore says drawing is a slow but liberating process. ‘By transposing photographs into large-scale drawings, I can re-immerse myself in the emotion. The large format is essential, as it allows me to analyse every detail of the image and feeling.’

In Carring Self Portrait (2024), we see Sore themselves, but especially a human being in which everyobe can recognise something of themselves. ‘Experiencing emotions can often be lonely. You feel abandoned, sad and despondent, and look to yourself for comfort and support. It’s precisely that stilness within vehemence, that vulnerability, that I want to express.’
